This painting was part of a group exhibition at Gallery Nucleus called Yesterday’s Tomorrow, all about retro futurism – that optimistic, space age kind of 1960’s version of the future. You know, the one that we didn’t actually get… Like on the Jetsons. I find the stereo systems of that era really fabulous, although I don’t understand what much of the equipment actually does. The idea that a futuristic music system would be BIG, fill a whole room even, is so funny when we flash forward and see what actually happened: people don’t even own physical copies of records anymore, let alone stereos! Anyway, this one was an exercise in minimalism, and I still love how all those twisty wires turned out.
