Jim and Kim

2011, Acrylic on Board
SOLD

This painting was part of a group exhibition celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Edward Scissorhands held at Gallery Nucleus in California. I grew up on Tim Burton movies, and wowee do those things make a lasting impression on a young brain! Winona Ryder was SO beautiful and ethereal as Kim. Anthony MIchael Hall made for an amazing display of toxic masculinity. I knew it was likely that the show would be filled with artwork featuring the titular character, so I went against expectation and gave these two a moment under the iconic t-rex topiary.

While looking for pictures of this painting, I found quite a few process pictures that I’d taken while working on it. What a cool little time capsule I created! This is essentially my process for every acrylic painting: sketch, plan, prepare, execute.
