Rose Red and Snow White
2012, Acrylic on Board

This diptych was part of a group exhibition at the Wonderful World of Animation Gallery. The theme was fairy tales, and as far as those go I love the obscure ones. My take on Rose and Snow was that they would be two little 1960’s styled gals. I was working on these at a moment in my career where I really wasn’t sure where I was headed, or what was going to happen next – it all felt deeply uncertain and scary. Little did I know that soon enough these paintings would find their way to an editor at Random House, and that she would think “Now here’s an artist who knows how to make a magical image!” And that I’d soon be asked to illustrate a book about a certain unicorn. These paintings were purchased together, and to my knowledge they remain together to this day – appropriately so.
